It is bordered by Schuyler County to the east, Macon County to the south, Putnam County to the west and Scotland County to the north. According to the 2010 census, Adair County had a population of 25,607 people.
Adair County was established in 1841 and named after John Adair, a Revolutionary War hero and Kentucky Governor. The county seat is located in Kirksville, which was founded in 1841 as well. Kirksville is also home to Truman State University (formerly Northeast Missouri State University) and A.T. Still University’s School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Winters are cold and snowy with temperatures ranging from 20-30°F (-7 to -1°C). Spring sees the return of warmer weather, usually beginning in mid-March and lasting through late May. Autumn is mild but can be unpredictable with temperatures ranging from 40-60°F (4-15°C).

Transportation in Adair County, Missouri
