The area around Albertville was first inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Cherokee and Creek Indians. In 1818, the land was ceded to the United States by treaty with the Creek Indians. One of these settlers was John Albert who purchased land in 1844 and established a small farming community which he named “Albert’s Settlement” after himself.

During this period, Albertville became an important trade center for cotton farmers in the area who shipped their goods out on railroads built by local businessman William J. Blackwell.
During World War II, Albertville served as an important base for military operations in North Africa due to its close proximity to Huntsville Army Air Field (now Redstone Arsenal).
