According to physicscat, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is a central African country bordered by Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. As of 2013 it had an estimated population of 71 million people. Its capital city was Kinshasa and its official language was French. In 2013 the DRC was still recovering from two wars that had devastated the country in recent years. Poverty and violence were widespread throughout much of the country due to poor governance and corruption. The DRC also suffered from a lack of infrastructure and basic services such as healthcare and education. Despite this, there were some signs of economic growth in certain sectors such as mining and agriculture. The DRC also had a long history of political unrest due to conflicts between different ethnic groups in the country as well as disputes over control of natural resources. In 2013 there were ongoing negotiations between different factions to try and bring about an end to the violence but these efforts had yet to bear fruit. In addition, freedom of speech was limited in many parts of the country due to restrictions imposed by the government. Overall, in 2013 the Democratic Republic of Congo was still a nation struggling with poverty and violence but with some signs of hope for a brighter future if effective governance could be achieved. The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in 2014 was a country wracked by violence, poverty, and political instability. After gaining independence in 1960, the DRC struggled to find its footing as a nation. In the early 2000s, a civil war broke out and lasted until 2003, leaving millions dead and displaced. The war left much of the country’s infrastructure destroyed and its economy in shambles. In addition to this internal strife, the DRC has also been plagued by numerous foreign invasions over the years from neighboring countries like Rwanda and Uganda. As a result of all these issues, the DRC is one of the poorest countries in Africa with nearly 70 percent of its population living below the poverty line. The DRC is still struggling to recover from this recent history of violence and political turmoil. In 2014, there were several attempts at forming a more stable government with little success. The security situation remained volatile with ongoing conflicts between different factions vying for control of resources like minerals and land. There were also reports of human rights violations including rape, torture, extrajudicial killings, forced displacement and child soldier recruitment. Despite these challenges however, there were some signs of hope in 2014 as well such as increased foreign investment into infrastructure projects aimed at improving access to healthcare and education across the country.
